Job Description

Job Purpose

The Technical Sales Support role in the pump industry is responsible for providing end-to-end pre-sales and post-sales technical assistance related to centrifugal pumps and pumping systems. The role supports the sales team by offering accurate pump selection, technical proposals, compliance to specifications, and coordination with internal engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure successful order conversion and execution.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Pump Selection & Application Engineering
  • Study customer requirements, datasheets, BOQs, and tender specifications related to pumping systems.
  • Select suitable pump models (end suction, split case, multistage, vertical turbine, submersible, sewage, fire pumps, etc.) based on duty conditions.
  • Perform basic hydraulic calculations related to flow, head, efficiency, NPSH, and power consumption.
  • Support system-related queries such as suction/discharge conditions, pipe losses, and operating ranges.
  1. Pre-Sales & Tender Technical Support
  • Prepare technical offers, compliance statements, deviation sheets, and technical questionnaires.
  • Support tender submissions for Government, PSU, EPC, irrigation, water supply, STP/ETP, HVAC, fire-fighting, and industrial projects.
  • Coordinate for approval of makes, drawings, and technical deviations.
  1. Technical Documentation
  • Prepare and review pump datasheets, GA drawings, QAPs, performance curves, and test standards.
  • Ensure all submissions comply with relevant IS, ANSI, API, ISO, and customer-specific standards.
  • Maintain updated technical catalogues and reference documents.
  1. Internal Coordination
  • Coordinate with Design, Production, Quality, Testing, and R&D teams for feasibility and clarifications.
  • Support costing inputs for special materials, coatings, seals, motors, and accessories.
  • Ensure technical alignment before price finalization and order booking.5. Customer, Consultant & Site Interaction
  • Respond to technical queries from customers, consultants, and contractors.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, technical discussions, and client presentations when required.
  • Support post-order technical clarifications and handover to execution/project teams.
  1. Post-Order Technical Support
  • Assist in technical order finalization after PO/LOA receipt.
  • Support preparation and approval of drawings and documents during execution stage.
  • Ensure smooth coordination until dispatch readiness.
  1. Market & Product Knowledge
  • Stay updated with competitor pump ranges, applications, and market trends.
  • Share feedback from market and customers for product and design improvement.

Desired Skills & Competencies

  • Strong technical knowledge of centrifugal pumps and pumping systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret pump curves, datasheets, and technical drawings.
  • Good understanding of pump applications in water, wastewater, industrial, fire, and

HVAC sectors.

  • Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and ERP/CRM systems.

Skills and Qualifications

Qualification & Experience

  • BE / BTech / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2–7 years of experience in Technical Sales Support / Application Engineering in pump industry.
  • Experience with pump manufacturers is mandatory.
