Head requirements for mine dewatering depend on mine depth and the vertical distance water must be pumped to reach a discharge point at surface or an intermediate pump stage.
Typical ranges by mine type:
| Mine Type | Typical Head Required | Cosmos Pump Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Quarry / open-pit (0–30 m depth) | 20–50 M | CDW Standard (up to 86.5 M head) |
| Mid-depth mine / tunnel (30–80 m) | 50–100 M | CDW High Head (40–140 M head) |
| Deep shaft mine / hydropower tunnel (80–150 m+) | 100–200 M | CDW Ultra High Head (90–200 M head) |
Where slurry (mine tailings, ash, or high-solids water) is involved, the Cosmos CSL slurry submersible pump handles SG up to 2.1 with 27% hi-chrome construction — dewatering pumps are not rated for slurry duty.
For multi-stage pump systems in very deep mines, Cosmos provides EPEC turnkey dewatering solutions, including sump design and pump staging.
