A submersible dewatering pump is a pump that operates entirely underwater to remove groundwater, rainwater, or floodwater from construction sites, mines, municipal sites, infrastructure projects, and basements. Unlike surface pumps, it works while fully submerged, making it efficient for rapid water evacuation without the need for priming.
How Does a Submersible Dewatering Pump Work?
The motor and pump are sealed in a single waterproof housing. When switched on, the motor drives an impeller that creates centrifugal force, drawing water in through the bottom inlet and pushing it upward through a discharge pipe to the surface. Because the pump is already surrounded by the fluid it is moving, there is no suction lift requirement and no risk of cavitation from a dry start — provided the motor has thermal protection.
Types of Submersible Dewatering Pumps

- CDW — Dewatering Pump: For dirty or muddy water with solids up to 12 mm. Standard construction and infrastructure workhorse.
- CNC — Non-Clog Pump: Handles sludge and viscous mixes with solids up to 70 mm (bottom discharge). Used for sewage bypass and manhole cleaning.
- CSW — Sewage Pump: Designed for residential, commercial, and municipal sewage with solids up to 100 mm and SG up to 1.7.
- CSL — Slurry Pump: For high-abrasive fluids with solids up to 70% by weight and SG up to 2.1. Hi-chrome construction for mines and ash-handling plants.
